A full-wall installation requires measurements from one finished edge to the other.

A partial installation requires a clearly planned starting and ending point. Marking the intended area with painter’s tape can help you understand the final proportions before ordering.

Do not calculate the quantity until the installation area has been defined.


Measure the Wall Width

Measure the wall horizontally from the intended starting point to the intended ending point.

Take the measurement at several heights:

  • Near the floor
  • Around the center of the wall
  • Near the ceiling

Walls and corners are not always perfectly straight. If the measurements are slightly different, use the largest width when calculating the panel quantity.

Record the measurement in either inches or millimeters, but use the same unit throughout the calculation.

Measure the Wall Height

Calculate the Number of Full Wall Panels

For a standard vertical installation, the main calculation is based on the wall width.

Use this formula::Wall width ÷ Panel width = Number of panels

For NORDAN Full Wall panels, each panel is approximately 280 mm wide.

Always round the result up to the next whole panel.

Example

Assume the wall is:

3600 mm wide

The calculation is:

3600 ÷ 280 = 12.86 panels

Because partial panels cannot be ordered individually as full coverage units, round the result up:

13 panels required

If each box contains two Full Wall panels:

13 ÷ 2 = 6.5 boxes

Round up again:

7 boxes required

Seven boxes provide 14 panels, leaving one additional panel for the project.


Why You Must Round Up

A calculation result should never be rounded down.

For example:

10.2 panels

does not mean that 10 panels are sufficient. It means the installation requires 11 panel widths to cover the planned area.

Rounding down may leave part of the wall uncovered.

The same rule applies when converting panels into boxes. If the calculation produces 5.5 boxes, six boxes are required.


Should You Calculate by Area or by Width?

Square-foot or square-meter calculations are useful for an initial estimate, but they may not provide the most accurate order quantity.

Acoustic slat panels are installed as fixed-width vertical units. The number of panel widths across the wall is often more important than the total wall area.

For a complete vertical feature wall, calculate by:

  1. Confirming that the panel length is suitable for the wall height.
  2. Dividing the wall width by the panel width.
  3. Rounding up to a complete panel.

Should Doors and Windows Be Subtracted?

Large openings may reduce the amount of material required, but they should not always be subtracted automatically.

Full-height doors

A full-height door located at the edge of the installation area may reduce the total width that needs to be covered.

In this case, calculate the wall sections on each side separately.

Windows

If panels are installed only below, above, or beside a window, divide the wall into separate rectangular sections and calculate each section individually.

Electrical outlets and switches

Do not subtract small outlets, switches, or cable openings from the panel quantity.

The panel must still cover the surrounding wall, and the opening will be cut from the panel during installation.

Television mounts and wall fixtures

Do not subtract the area behind a television, bracket, shelf, or wall-mounted object unless the panels will not be installed behind that area.

The final decision should follow the planned installation layout, not only the visible wall area.


Divide Irregular Walls into Separate Sections

For walls with corners, doors, windows, sloped ceilings, or recessed areas, divide the project into simpler sections.

For example:

  • Section A: Left side of the window
  • Section B: Below the window
  • Section C: Right side of the window

The box quantity may already provide an additional panel because orders must be rounded up to complete boxes.
